Property Description

MICHIGAN CONTEMPORARY WATERFRONT HOME FOR SALE!! Located on Big Lake, this property is in Baraga Township, in west-central Baraga County, in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan.  Big Lake, a Spring Fed Lake, is 127 acres in size, and is approximately 34 feet deep at its deepest point. Anglers can be expected to catch a variety of fish including Largemouth Bass, Walleye, Sunfish, Northern Pike, Muskies and Yellow Perch. Big Lake is surrounded by Copper Country State Forest and Corporate CFA Lands. Here you can enjoy walk-in access In-Season for hunting, trapping, and fishing. Bear, Deer, Ruffed Grouse, and Small Game abound here.  This is a stunning Wausau Custom Design Home. The beautiful finishes and décor shows total pride of ownership!  You enter the home via an Entryway between the Attached 2+ Vehicle Garage, and the main structure. It features custom textured tile flooring, an exit door to the waterside of the home, and access to the Great Room.  The Great Room offers an open concept Living, Kitchen, and Dining Area with high vaulted White Cedar ceilings, and Cherry flooring. The Living Room has views of the lake and features custom solid hammered steel Curtain Roads, and a Consolidated Dutch West free-standing wood stove. From the Living Room is access to a Screened-Enclosed Porch with White-pine interior trims, and exterior stairs to the lake side of the property.  The Kitchen has Schrack top-of-the-line Hickory Cabinets, Wausau Red Granite Counter-tops, Ceramic Tile Flooring, and Kitchen Aide appliances – all replaced about three years ago.  A few steps down the hall are a ¾ Bath with Ceramic tile flooring, a spacious First Floor bedroom that features Cherry Wood floors, and an Office that features Butternut flooring. (The Office could be used as a third bedroom with the use of an Armoire, or the addition of a Closet.)  Up a flight of Butternut wood stairs, is a Balcony that over-looks the Great Room. Included on this Level is the Main  Bedroom with White pine walls and Cherry wood floors, a Full Bath, and a Walk-In Closet lined with White and aromatic Red
Cedar.\  The Lower Level of the home has a large Den Area with a second free-standing Wood Stove, and textured tile floors. There is a Walk-Out door system to the lake side of the home. Included on this Level are an Exercise Room, and Laundry/Mechanical Room. In the nicely landscaped yard is a 10x12 Potting Shed. This would be perfect for a year-round home, or recreational getaway! Call for an appointment today!

The Baraga Plains Wildlife Area is in the immediate area, and it is part of 142 ,900 acres of State owned land. This is an area of heavy lake effect snowfall from Lake Superior. The management unit supervises a 988 mile snowmobile trail network. Access to Trail No. 15, the Clowry-Nestoria Multi-Use State Trail is nearby. All of this system is groomed and maintained under eight grants to local snowmobile clubs or chambers of commerce.  There is one ORV trail on the Baraga Plains, and several ORV routes on railroad grades nearby. There is a 5,000 acre area of jack pine near this parcel, in the Baraga Plains. Jack pine clear cuts and subsequent regeneration have resulted in large areas of young jack pine. These are attractive to Kirtland warblers, and they have nested here. This area is also a major Fly-Way for migrating geese and ducks.  About five miles south-east of the property, is the historic Alberta Village. It was founded in 1936 by Henry Ford - At that time wood was used extensively in automobiles, and Ford declared the banks of the Plumbago Creek to be an ideal spot for a sawmill. Ford Motor Company donated the town of Alberta and 1,700 acres of surrounding land to the School of Forest Resources and Environmental Science at Michigan Technological University. Alberta's buildings today are used as a museum, and support research and teaching programs for forestry and ecology majors, and are used by numerous universities from around the United States for forestry education.  MLS# 50072512
